3 Year Plan
Matthew Holder's 3 Year Plan Following College
When I finish college, there are many different roads in which I plan on taking;
Year 1
My first intentions are to go into full time employment for the months following college until the end of october, in order to save up enough money to travel to Australia.
The sum of money, that I will be saving will be used also in learning to drive, an asset that will be invaluable for travelling whilst in Australia.
In order to make this possible there are many things to consider, most of which I have planned and considered;
Accommodation: During my trip I will be staying with my Godfather in Perth, for this I intend to pay a weekly rent for the use of his facilities at which I've calculated £40 per week to be a fair amount.
Flight: After a lot of research into the price of flights (return, one way and variable return) and discovered the flights can range anything from £600 up to £800 (Economy Class) so a figure of £800 is what I will prepare and save for.
Visa and Visa Requirements: In order to earn the right a temporary residency and to have the ability of seeking employment, a working holiday visa is required. The cost of the visa will be £235, it can be purchased unto 12 months before activation (upon entering the country) and allows me to live, work and play in australia for up to 12 months. There are many requirements of this visa, for validity of my visa, upon entering the country, I must present many documents and be financially stable, requiring me to be fully insured, have a return or onward journey ticket and have AUD $5,000 (Approximately £2,950) at my disposal, for living expenses until I find employment. From the AUD $5,000 I will be paying for accommodation with my Godfather.
Employment: While in Australia I have numerous plans of seeking employment;
Lifeguarding: I currently hold a qualification as a lifeguard, my Godfather has told me of a position he can get me as a lifeguard on his local beach.
Gym/Personal Trainer: During the months following college, I plan to embark on furthering my knowledge base and qualifications in that of the area of fitness and nutrition in which I would like to take relevant courses to work in gyms and as a personal trainer, this will make me much more favourable when it comes to seeking employment in australia and will broaden my horizons. The Ymca are an organisation that hosts different courses for young people to develop new skills, in order to make them more employable. My reasoning for choosing the Ymca for their courses, is due to the fact that they set the standards in the most recognised qualifications in the youth and fitness industry.
Photography: There is also the fact that I will have completed a course in Photography and can seek employment or become a freelance in the field of photography.
On top of all these factors I already have established a string of past employments and have other qualifications including being fully first aid trained (see CV.)
Summary of year 1: My 1st year after college will comprise of working for a few months and travelling to Australia. While residing in Australia I intend to see the sights, work and to experience a different culture. I am also planning on travelling from Perth to Sydney for a different taste of Australia and a change of scenery and experiences, here I will find residence in hostels or renting and will most likely work in the city ( or anywhere that will have me.) I will be staying in Australia for up to a year and will be deciding at the end of which whether to come home, travel further, extend my visa or apply for permanent residency in Australia.
Years 2 and 3
My plans for the following 2 years are less clear than my first year, the reasons for this are:
My conclusion upon the end of my visa, as to where my next actions should take me (home, travel, extend visa, apply for permanent residency.)
If I were to stay in Australia my intentions would be to peruse a career in the health and fitness industry. My general interest in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, means that I'm interested in all areas of fitness, this being said, my interests open numerous opportunities in this field. In the environment that I will be working in, I will have the opportunity to pursue my own interests in maintaining a healthy lifestyle for myself, with the ability to experiment and gain more knowledge through trial and error.
If I were to continue travelling, an aspiration of mine would be to seek employment upon a cruise ship, enabling me to travel the world, with expenses paid for and a steady income this ensures that I will also be able to see the world.
I would like to travel countries of different cultures, seeking new experiences, new people and different ways of life, with the possibilities of volunteer work in small communities.
If I were to finish my travels and to come back to England I would like to pursue a career very much like that of which I would embark on in Australia.
